Professional Development Programme

The Professional Development Programme (PDP) is available for UK graduates, or degree students, wanting to progress to Chartered Membership via a structured and assessed route.

The PDP develops and assesses candidates' occupational competence within a framework of support from the employer and a CIOB approved assessor.

PDP - The Benefits for Employers

Applying for PDP

In order to apply for the Professional Development Programme, you must be either a student member or an incorporate member of the CIOB. Please complete a PDP Application Form (PDF 484KB) and send to: PDP, CIOB, Englemere, Kings Ride, Ascot, Berkshire, SL5 7TB. The 'PDP Guide for Candidates' (PDF 302KB) is a good source of information of PDP applicants. During the PDP, each candidate will have to complete a 'PDP Self Assessment Form'.

PDP Assessors

To complete the PDP all candidates must provide evidence of job/occupational competence in a number of prescribed occupational activities. This evidence must be assessed by an Assessor who is approved by the CIOB. The assessor needs to be a Chartered member of CIOB (MCIOB) or of another construction related institute. The 'Guide for Assessors' (PDF 58.1KB) will give you further information on what being an assessor involves.

The assessor will be required to attend an induction session which are held throughout the year.

The Professional Review

PDP candidates are able to progress through the PDP at their own pace. On successful completion of the programme candidates are automatically eligible for the Professional Review.
